Towns Premier League soft-launched in Karachi with all 25 towns on board

The Towns Premier League (TPL), a town-level tape-ball cricket competition, was officially soft-launched at a ceremony in Karachi, bringing the city's towns together under one league for the first time. Sindh Minister for Local Government and TPL Patron-in-Chief Nasir Hussain Shah was the chief guest. Organisers confirmed that 26 teams will take part: 25 sides representing Karachi's towns and one team representing the Mayor of Karachi. The official TPL anthem and the team jerseys were also unveiled at the ceremony, giving players their first look at the colours each town will wear in the competition. Addressing the gathering, Nasir Hussain Shah said the soft launch of the TPL marks the beginning of a new chapter for cricket in Karachi. He congratulated the TPL team for bringing all 25 towns of the city together through the positive power of sport. 'This league is a completely non-political sporting initiative,' he said. 'It is about inclusion, grassroots cricket, local talent, healthy competition, sportsmanship and community participation.' He urged all town administrations to extend their full cooperation to the organisers, and said the league would give young cricketers across Karachi the chance to represent their own town and to showcase their talent in front of the city. With teams drawn from every corner of the city, the TPL is expected to give hundreds of local players competitive match time and to strengthen the game at the grassroots level.
